Three ships hit in Strait of Hormuz attacks

Date:

Three vessels were struck by unidentified projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz, according to maritime security services and sources on Wednesday. One attack caused a fire aboard a cargo ship, forcing most of the crew to evacuate.

Details of the attacks

The Thai-flagged cargo ship “Mayuree Naree” was hit about 11 nautical miles north of Oman, suffering damage. The UK Maritime Trade Operations later confirmed the fire was extinguished with no environmental impact, and essential crew remained on board.

Earlier, the Japanese-flagged container ship “One Majesty” suffered minor damage from an unknown projectile around 25 nautical miles northwest of Ras Al Khaimah, UAE. All crew are safe, and the vessel is heading to a secure anchorage.

A third cargo ship, the Marshall Islands-flagged “Star Gwyneth”, was struck approximately 50 miles northwest of Dubai. Vanguard Tech, the maritime risk management company, reported the hull was damaged but the crew remains safe.

Maritime traffic impact

Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for roughly 20% of global oil and gas supply, has sharply declined since the Iran conflict erupted on February 28. These incidents bring the total number of ships attacked since the conflict began to at least 14.
