Three Larnaca drug arrests after police operation

Date:

Three people aged 23, 31 and 32 have been arrested during a drug squad operation in Larnaca targeting individuals suspected of involvement in drug trafficking and distribution.

According to police, officers from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) searched the home of a 32-year-old man on Wednesday afternoon under a court warrant. A 23-year-old relative was at the property at the time.

€13,250 found during house search

During a search of the 23-year-old’s room, officers found four firecrackers, two flares and €13,250 in cash.

The items and money were seized as evidence and the 23-year-old was arrested for offences detected during the search.

The 32-year-old was not at home when YKAN officers arrived. Police said a relative informed him of their presence, while an officer also contacted him and asked him to return to the property so the search could continue.

He allegedly replied that he was unable to return at that time.

Meanwhile, other YKAN officers were searching a field belonging to the 32-year-old under a separate court warrant obtained earlier.

Driver allegedly hits three police vehicles

While officers were at the field, a car driven by a 31-year-old man approached the area.

YKAN officers signalled for him to stop using police lights. According to police, when the driver realised officers were present, he attempted to evade the check and struck three police vehicles before his car eventually came to a stop.

A YKAN officer suffered a hand injury in the collisions and was taken to Larnaca General Hospital. The officer received first aid and was later discharged.

The 31-year-old was arrested for offences allegedly committed in the officers’ presence.

Police said a subsequent search found 24 grams of cannabis, a grinder containing traces of cannabis, a precision scale and €100 in his possession.

Cannabis allegedly found inside cooler

A short time later, the 32-year-old arrived at the field.

During a search conducted in his presence, officers found a cooler containing five packages of cannabis with a total gross weight of 910 grams, along with various other items.

The 32-year-old was also arrested for offences allegedly detected during the search.

All items and drugs found during the operation were seized as evidence.

The three suspects were subsequently rearrested under court warrants and taken into custody.

YKAN and Kofinou Police Station are continuing their investigations into the case.
