The 20th Games of the Small States of Europe open in Andorra

The 20th Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) open on Monday in Andorra with a ceremony at the capital’s “El Estadi Nacional”, starting at 21:00 (local time, 22:00 Cyprus time).

According to the Cyprus Sports Writers Association (CSWA) correspondent, Theodoros Kombos, the stadium that will host the opening ceremony has a capacity of 3,300 people.

In addition to the 183 athletes, comprising Cyprus’ mission, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Costas Koumis, will represent the President of the Republic at the opening ceremony. The President of the Cyprus Olympic Committee (COC), George Chrysostomou, and Secretary General, Yiotis Ioannides, will also attend on behalf of the Committee.

The opening ceremony will feature a parade with more than 1000 athletes from the nine participating countries, with Kalia Antoniou (swimmer) and Odysseas Georgakis (judo athlete) carrying the Cyprus flag, after being selected by the COC.

More than 1,000 athletes representing 9 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) will compete across 19 disciplines at the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) in Andorra from 26-31 May.
