State hospital doctors on 48-hour strike

Date:

State hospital doctors in all public hospitals are going on a 48-hour strike today and tomorrow following Monday’s deadlock at a meeting between OKYpY (State Health Services Organization) and the unions.

The doctors are protesting because of their financial incentives for the years 2023-2027 and OKYpY says that any solution should be a comprehensive one.

The doctors’ unions proposed the return, primarily, of the amount of money for 2023-2024 and assured that they would proceed to a consultation, in relation to the years 2025-2027.

OKYpY said that measures have been taken for the treatment of patients who are hospitalised and that no lives will be in danger. The strike will affect the operation of Accident and Emergency departments but unions said that these departments will operate in a certain way.

President Christodoulides noted last night that the state will not succumb to pressure that is against the public interest and jeopardizes major reforms.
