SPAVO: Embassies of EU countries join forces against gender violence

Date:

Under the initiative of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Nicosia, Embassies of EU countries have joined forces with the Association for Preventing and Handling of Violence in the Family (also known as SPAVO) to advocate against gender-based violence.

A press release says that this activity is part of the 16-day international campaign against gender-based violence, aimed at raising awareness among the public and encouraging institutions to take action in safeguarding fundamental human rights.

Heads of Mission and the staff of the Embassies as well as the President of SPAVO, Maria Kousiou, gathered at the premises of the Dutch Embassy in Nicosia for a photo which will raise awareness in the traditional and social media platforms. In addition, the Dutch, French and Austrian Embassies will be joining SPAVO’s campaign in lighting up their premises in orange to commemorate the victims of gender-based violence.

“Our Embassies remain committed to cooperating with the Cypriot people, Cyprus’ public institutions, and the diplomatic community in combating this fundamental/critical violation of human rights. Violence against women must end”, the press release says.
