A tragedy unfolded at KOT Beach in Larnaca on Saturday afternoon, when a 35-year-old mother who was in the sea with her two daughters, aged 14 and 12, lost her life under circumstances that are being investigated. Both girls are currently being treated at Makarios Hospital.
At around 6:20 p.m., Police received information about a drowning incident in the area.
According to police sources, the family is of Romanian origin and was holidaying in Cyprus.
The father was also at the beach with the couple’s son, while the mother and two of their three children, both girls, had entered the sea.
According to information reported by CyBC, the mother and her daughters were in the water at around 6:30 p.m. when they encountered difficulties amid rough sea conditions. Other swimmers rushed to their assistance and managed to bring them ashore.
The woman was pulled from the water unconscious. Despite attempts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead.
The two girls were initially taken to Larnaca General Hospital. One was subsequently transferred to Makarios Hospital because of the seriousness of her condition.
Sigmalive was later informed that the second girl was also transferred to Makarios Hospital.
According to the latest information, the 12-year-old is intubated in the Intensive Care Unit, while the 14-year-old remains in a serious but stable condition.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
