On Wednesday, DISY President Annita Demetriou and newly appointed Auditor General Andreas Papaconstantinou discussed issues concerning the smooth and effective functioning of the Audit Office.
According to a press release from the party, Ms. Demetriou stated that audits must be strict, timely, and objective to enable preventive action. She emphasized that transparency and accountability are essential components of a democratic system.
Ms. Demetriou also expressed the party’s readiness to provide substantial support in strengthening the independence of the Audit Office and facilitating its work.
The DISY President further voiced the party’s willingness to review proposals aimed at safeguarding the credibility and smooth operation of the institution. She highlighted that modernizing the state and addressing past inefficiencies is a responsibility shared by all. To this end, DISY continually takes initiatives and considers the Audit Office a valuable partner to the House of Representatives, according to the announcement.
The meeting was also attended by DISY Parliamentary Representative and Chair of the Legal Affairs Committee, Nikos Tornaritis, as well as DISY Vice President and MP Savia Orphanidou.
