Sizopoulos denies loan case involvement: “I know I am innocent”

Date:

Speaking on Sigma’s Mesimeri kai Kati, EDEK president Marinos Sizopoulos addressed reports linking him to negotiations over a company loan. He categorically denied any personal involvement, describing the matter as a “systematic attempt at defamation.”

Sizopoulos clarified that the disputed correspondence did not concern him, but rather communication between a lawyer and a shareholder of the company who, he said, had “forged documents” with the bank. “This is not Sizopoulos’ communication,” he stressed, adding that his role was limited to conveying a settlement proposal to the bank after learning that guarantors risked legal action.

“I did not negotiate”

He emphasised that negotiations with the bank were carried out solely by the company’s lawyer and not by himself. “It is one thing to pass on a proposal or express an opinion, and another to conduct negotiations,” he said.

In response to those targeting him, he said he had consulted his lawyers, who advised him not to disclose all evidence before the investigation is complete, to avoid misinterpretation or biased use. “I do not know what the Attorney General will decide, but I know I am innocent,” he declared.

Filed the case himself

The EDEK president also stressed that he was the one who reported the matter to police, insisting that if he had any involvement, he would not have taken such action. “If I had any participation, I would have claimed the money owed to my company. I didn’t. If I were involved, I would not have been the one to report the case,” he said. “I know how clean I am, I know I am innocent.”

Political motivations

Finally, Sizopoulos alleged that some are attempting to politically and personally discredit him. “At some point there has to be seriousness. You cannot burn people in this way just because of political disagreements,” he said.
