At least 10 people were killed and 61 injured after Russia launched a large-scale drone and missile attack on Ukraine early on Monday, according to Ukrainian officials.
The attack on Kyiv caused widespread destruction across the capital and nearby areas, with emergency crews continuing search and rescue operations.
Tymur Tkachenko said on Telegram that nine people were killed and 46 others injured in Kyiv.
“Unfortunately, this is not final information. Rescue efforts are still ongoing,” he said.
Residential buildings damaged
Mykola Kalashnyk said one person died and another 15 were injured in communities surrounding the capital.
He accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said debris struck a 25-storey residential building in the Darnytskyi district, trapping residents on upper floors. Rescue teams evacuated 22 people.
A separate strike caused a fire in the upper floors of a 30-storey apartment building in the same district, forcing additional evacuations.
In Podilskyi district, debris partially destroyed a 21-storey residential building, while fires damaged a warehouse and another non-residential structure in Obolonskyi district.
Russia says strikes targeted military sites
Meanwhile, the Russian Defence Ministry said its forces carried out a large-scale operation using long-range precision weapons launched from land, air and sea, alongside attack drones.
Moscow said the strikes targeted military industry facilities, fuel and energy infrastructure in Kyiv and military airfields in several Ukrainian regions, including Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Cherkasy and Chernihiv.
Independent verification of the claims remains difficult due to the ongoing conflict.
