Cyprus has launched a new digital service allowing electronic submission of applications for the renewal of specific categories of residence permits for third-country nationals.
The service was announced jointly by the Deputy Ministry of Migration and the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy.
According to the announcement, the platform is aimed at third-country nationals legally residing in the Republic of Cyprus who wish to renew their residence permits.
Employers and representatives also covered
The new system also applies to employers submitting renewal applications on behalf of employees, as well as authorised representatives including organisations, law firms and other individuals or legal entities acting for applicants.
At this stage, the service covers applications for temporary residence permits linked to salaried employment, domestic work and employees of foreign interest companies.
It also includes applications for residence permits for family reunification purposes and long-term resident permits.
Authorities stressed that the new digital platform currently applies only to renewals of existing permits and not to first-time applications.
Faster and more streamlined process
Through the platform, eligible users can submit renewal applications and supporting documents electronically while also managing any representative authorisations.
Applicants will also be able to monitor the progress of their applications, pay fees online and choose their preferred service point for the next stages of the process and permit collection.
Physical presence will only be required in cases where regulations demand it, particularly for signatures and biometric data collection.
According to the announcement, once fully operational the new service is expected to cover 73% of renewal applications within the relevant residence permit categories, 60% of all applications for those categories including first registrations and renewals, and around 25% of all residence permit applications overall.
