The Labour Advisory Body meets again at 09:30 on Wednesday, with Labour and Social Insurance Minister Marinos Mousiouttas taking part as discussions continue over the pension reform bill.
One of the main points of contention surrounding pension reform talks is the possibility of raising the retirement age, an issue that divided employers’ organisations and trade unions at the body’s previous meeting on 7 September.
Retirement age remains point of contention
During that meeting, employers and unions disagreed over the prospect of increasing the retirement age as part of efforts to ensure the long-term sustainability of the pension system.
Finance Minister Makis Keravnos, who attended the previous meeting, said the reform should not put fiscal stability or the sustainability of the economy at risk.
The retirement age is expected to remain at the centre of Wednesday’s discussions as the two sides continue examining the proposed changes.
Government targets January 2027
Labour and Social Insurance Minister Marinos Mousiouttas has reiterated that the government’s aim is for Cyprus pension reform to take effect on 1 January 2027.
The Labour Advisory Body is expected to continue discussions on the provisions of the bill as efforts continue to bridge differences between employers and trade unions.
