Restrictions and road closures for the Presidency Opening Ceremony

The Police announce that, due to the Opening Ceremony of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which will take place on Wednesday, 07/01/2026, at 18:30, at the building of the Cyprus Theatre Organisation (THOC) in Nicosia, various measures concerning traffic arrangements and restrictions will be implemented.

Specifically, parking will be prohibited on Demostheni Severi Street, Gr. Afxentiou Street, Michail Karaoli Street, Lord Byron Street, Kosti Palama Street, Omirou Street, Anastasiou Leventi Street, Evagorou Street, Diagorou Street, and Vasileos Pavlou Street.

In addition, the Municipality of Nicosia, throughout the entire day, will not permit the parking of private vehicles in the two underground parking areas of the old G.S.P. stadium.

It is emphasised that from 14:30 onwards, road closures will be implemented around the THOC area, and access will be fully controlled.

Drivers are urged to comply with the road closures and traffic regulations that will be enforced, as well as with the instructions of police officers on duty.

Finally, it should be noted that, by Order of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works (C.D.P. 03/2026), the use of unmanned aircraft (“drones”) is strictly prohibited in the wider area of THOC as well as the Conference Centre (the relevant coordinates of the restricted area are specified in the Order). It is clarified that the prohibition period applies for the entire duration of the Presidency.
