A protest in Limassol will be held today, Friday 1 August 2025, in response to the deadly wildfire in the district.
The demonstration will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Administrative Square on Anexartisias Street, where speeches will be delivered. Participants will then march towards the Epichosi area, where the event will conclude.
According to the organisers, traffic in the area is not expected to be significantly affected. The event will be monitored by members of the Limassol Police Directorate and the Rapid Response Unit (MMAD), ensuring both public safety and the smooth flow of traffic.
Police have urged all participants in the protest in Limassol to follow instructions from officers on site, to maintain a peaceful demonstration and avoid any disturbances.
Under the Public Assemblies and Parades Law 151(I) of 2025, the organiser is responsible for ensuring the peaceful conduct of the gathering, cooperating with the local authority within whose jurisdiction it takes place, with the police, and with the designated liaison officer. The organiser must comply with all directives from these authorities.
The legislation also allows police to impose restrictions or even dissolve an assembly if it ceases to be peaceful, violates imposed conditions, poses a risk of physical harm, or risks damage to public or private property. In the case of spontaneous or urgent assemblies, police may take action if restrictions are not respected.
Additionally, if there is reasonable suspicion that a gathering may become non‑peaceful due to the actions of individuals who conceal or alter their appearance to avoid identification, police may order the removal of any item or disguise used for that purpose.
