President: target for first sale of Cypriot natural gas via Egypt by 2028

Nikos Christodoulides said on Sunday that the goal is to achieve the first sale of Cypriot natural gas to Europe via Egypt around 2027–2028.

President Christodoulides made the remarks after participating in the “Run for Autism” charity event in Ayia Napa.

Asked whether developments are expected regarding the “Cronos” gas field following his visit to Egypt on Monday, the President said the trip will focus exclusively on energy issues.

“We will also sign something relevant. Our goal, and I believe we are on the right track after many years, let me remind you that the first discovery within the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus was made in 2011, and we are now in 2026 without any exploitation, is to achieve the first sale of Cypriot natural gas to Europe via Egypt around 2027–2028,” he concluded.
