Cyprus police officers will soon be able to instantly identify internationally wanted persons using a new mobile application. The tool, called CY Patrol Check, will be available to frontline officers from 1 September, according to a report by Phileleftheros.
Until now, police had to contact station colleagues for background checks on individuals during field operations. The new system will streamline that process by equipping officers with tablets running the CY Patrol Check app, giving them direct access to crucial databases.
The app allows officers to identify individuals on Interpol’s “stop list” or “alert list” and provides access to the Schengen Information System. This includes data on stolen vehicles and other flagged items. The development marks a step forward in mobile policing, which is also a requirement for Cyprus’s inclusion in the Schengen Zone.
