Two-month extension approved for video-gate investigation

Date:

Independent criminal investigator Andreas Paschalides has requested an additional two-month extension for his appointment to continue the investigation into the video that circulated online. The video reportedly shows former Energy Minister George Lakkotrypis, ex-Director of the President’s Office Charalambos Charalambous, and businessman George Chrysochos speaking with alleged investors. The request was approved by the Attorney General of the Republic.

Coordination and evidence gathering

A meeting took place today at the Attorney General’s Office with the participation of the Deputy Attorney General, the Head Prosecutor of the Criminal Department, the Police Chief, the Independent Criminal Investigator, and the Police Investigator responsible for the case.

During this period, authorities secured the full-length video, which includes conversations that had previously appeared in edited form online. Investigators have also taken numerous witness statements and pursued evidence collection both within Cyprus and abroad.

Continuation of inquiries

Based on the ongoing evidence gathering and witness interviews, the continuation of the investigation was deemed necessary. The extension allows Paschalides to carry on with the inquiries over the next two months, ensuring a comprehensive review of the case.
