Police are investigating a complaint concerning plasma exchange treatments at a medical centre in Larnaca, according to Police spokesperson Vyronos Vyronos.
Speaking on Sigma TV’s “Protoselido” programme, Vyronos said the investigation began after a complaint was submitted to the authorities.
The aim is to establish whether any criminal offences may have been committed.
An investigative team has already been formed and statements have begun to be taken. Police are also working closely with the Medical Services of the Ministry of Health.
Vyronos said additional specialised expertise would be sought if considered necessary.
Previous investigation to be reviewed
The Police spokesperson also said complaints had been submitted in the past concerning the operation of a private hospital.
Those investigations were completed at the time and the file was forwarded to the Law Office. However, insufficient evidence was found to support a criminal case concerning the operation of a private hospital without a licence.
At this stage, police have one complaint before them concerning the specific treatments. According to Vyronos, a previous related case that had been investigated is expected to be reviewed as part of the new investigation.
