Pervolia tax shock after €6,000 bills sent in error

Date:

Hundreds of homeowners in Pervolia, Larnaca, received a shock when they opened their latest municipal tax bills from Dromolaxia–Meneou Municipality.

Many faced charges of €5,000 to €6,000 or more for refuse collection and other municipal fees.

Worried residents contacted the municipality and learned, to their great relief, that the amounts resulted from an error.

Municipal Secretary Kyriakos Sotiriou told the “Protoselido” programme that a printing mistake affected part of the Pervolia municipal district.

Out of 4,279 tax notices sent, 1,789 contained the error.

He explained the problem appeared only on the printed bills. Payments via JCC or standing order showed the correct amounts.

The municipality has already re-issued the corrected bills and will send them out very soon.
