Fake messages target mobile users
Cyprus Police has warned the public about fraudulent messages being sent to mobile phones claiming recipients have unpaid traffic fines.
According to police, citizens have recently reported receiving SMS messages containing links that allegedly lead to payment pages for traffic violations.
Fraudsters seek personal and banking data
Authorities said the messages are part of a scam designed to steal personal information, banking details and money from unsuspecting users.
Recipients are urged not to click on suspicious links or provide any personal or financial information through unofficial websites.
Police urge public caution
Police called on the public to remain particularly vigilant and avoid responding to suspicious SMS, email or online messages.
Authorities advised citizens to:
- Avoid opening links sent from unknown or suspicious senders
- Never enter banking or personal information on suspicious websites
- Contact the relevant authorities directly before making any payment or taking further action
Public advised to verify communications
The warning comes amid continued reports of online fraud and phishing attempts targeting individuals through mobile devices and electronic communications.
Police stressed that official communications should always be verified through legitimate government or police channels before any payment is made.
