New direct flights from Larnaca to Brussels launch in December

Date:

Cyprus will soon have direct Larnaca Brussels flights , with Aegean Airlines set to begin a new year-long route ahead of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU. Starting in early December, the airline will connect Larnaca with Brussels without any stopovers, following a relevant tender process.

From 1 December, Aegean will operate direct flights from Larnaca to Brussels’ main airport, Zaventem. For the whole of December, the airline will fly the route three times per week, increasing to five weekly flights from January for a six-month period- the full duration of Cyprus’ EU Council Presidency, which begins on 1 January.

Route revived due to EU Presidency demand

The upcoming Presidency is the key reason the route is being reinstated, as it has historically been considered operationally and financially unviable. Expected travel demand related to the Presidency was not sufficient on its own to make the route viable, leading authorities to launch a tender under EU regulations to cover part of the airline’s costs.

According to Economy Today, the Department of Civil Aviation issued the tender twice to attract interest, raising the available budget in the second round to €4.7 million from €3.7 million. Aegean ultimately submitted a bid of €4.3 million to operate the route for approximately one year, offering a specific number of flights as required in the tender terms.

First bookings already underway

The first reservations have already been made by officials preparing for the EU Presidency, as well as other interested travellers. Aegean’s schedule will include three weekly flights from December until year-end, five weekly flights from 1 January to 30 June 2026, three weekly flights during July 2026, and two weekly flights from August to November 2026.
