New arrest linked with 22.8kg of cannabis found in Nicosia

Date:

A second arrest has been made in connection with a large quantity of cannabis seized last September in Nicosia.

Police detained a 51-year-old man yesterday after evidence against him was obtained during the ongoing investigation. The large quantity of cannabis was discovered in a vehicle stopped for inspection by members of the Anti-Narcotics Unit (YKAN) on 12 September 2024, on a road in Nicosia. Inside the car, officers found and confiscated 20 nylon packages containing cannabis with a total gross weight of 22 kilograms and 838 grams. The driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old Nicosia resident, was arrested at the time.

Following further investigations, evidence was secured implicating the 51-year-old suspect, leading to a court-issued arrest warrant. He was apprehended yesterday afternoon and taken into custody to facilitate further inquiries.

Today, the 51-year-old is expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court for a detention order.

The Anti-Narcotics Unit (Nicosia District Branch) is continuing its investigations.
