The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, is travelling to Israel to take part in the 10th Trilateral Summit of Cyprus–Greece–Israel, which will be held today in Jerusalem. As part of the visit, President Christodoulides will hold separate meetings with the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, and the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.
Objectives of the Trilateral Summit
The summit aims to strengthen cooperation and security in the Middle East region. President Christodoulides highlighted the importance of the meeting for cooperation in the fields of energy, defence, innovation and tourism. The summit agenda also includes the prospect of enhancing the 3+1 format with the participation of the United States, with the aim of achieving strategic and economic connectivity in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The importance of Cyprus-Israel cooperation in the energy sector
Energy and interconnected infrastructure are expected to be key topics of the Trilateral Summit. The focus will be on existing and new energy projects, with particular emphasis on the Agreement on the Delimitation of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) between Cyprus and Lebanon, which is creating positive momentum for the region.
Mitsotakis’ visit to Jerusalem and Ramallah
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is visiting Jerusalem to strengthen strategic Greece–Israel relations and cooperation between Cyprus, Greece and Israel. As part of the visit, the Prime Minister will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and will take part in the Trilateral Summit. The aim is to advance issues of security, energy and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Meeting with President Abbas in Ramallah
Kyriakos Mitsotakis will also visit Ramallah, where he will meet with the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas. During this meeting, the Greek Prime Minister will reaffirm Greece’s position in favour of a two-state solution and a political settlement of the Palestinian issue, as well as its commitment to humanitarian aid and reconstruction in Gaza.
Programme of Prime Minister Mitsotakis
The Prime Minister’s visit includes a series of important meetings. At 12:30, Kyriakos Mitsotakis will meet with President Abbas in Ramallah. Then, at 14:30, he will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem. The Trilateral Summit will take place at 17:45, followed by statements to the press by the leaders.
Deepening Greek-Israeli cooperation
Prime Minister Mitsotakis’ visit to Jerusalem confirms the continuity and depth of Greek–Israeli relations, while strengthening the trilateral cooperation framework with Cyprus and Israel. Greece continues to play an active role in shaping conditions of peace and security in the region, strengthening strategic alliances and promoting cooperation for the stability of the Eastern Mediterranean.
