Cyprus Police are investigating a threat incident following a complaint of armed intimidation and vehicle damage case involving the president of the organisation “Voice of Livestock Farmers”, Neophytos Neophytou.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred late Tuesday night on the Delikipos–Lythrodontas road, when three individuals on two motorcycles allegedly intercepted his vehicle.
Allegations of gun threat and damage
Police said the suspects allegedly threatened the driver with a firearm, while two others caused damage to the vehicle’s windscreen.
The incident is being investigated by the Larnaca Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Witness account and allegations
Speaking to Cypriot media, Neophytos Neophytou said the attackers warned him in relation to his recent public positions on livestock issues and animal health measures.
He also claimed that cameras in the area may assist investigators in identifying those involved.
Police continue investigation
Authorities have confirmed that they are investigating the threat as a case of threats of violence, illegal possession of a firearm, and malicious property damage.
Police have not yet confirmed any arrests.
Context of livestock sector tensions
Neophytou linked the incident to recent debates surrounding livestock policy and disease management, particularly measures related to animal health controls, while stressing that he will continue his work without backing down.
