Motorcyclist, 30, dies in Kellia-Troulloi crash

A 30-year-old motorcyclist has died following a head-on collision on the Kellia-Troulloi road on Sunday evening.

The victim was identified as Georgios Georgiou from Larnaca. He was riding a high-powered motorcycle when he collided with a saloon car carrying four people, including two children.

Motorcycle crossed into opposite lane

According to Larnaca Police Division traffic chief Chrysostomos Panayiotou, the fatal crash occurred at around 7.30pm.

Panayiotou said Georgiou was riding a high-powered motorcycle belonging to another person.

Under circumstances that remain under investigation, the motorcyclist entered a bend and crossed into the opposite lane, where he collided head-on with the saloon car.

Four people were travelling in the car, a couple and their two minor children.

According to preliminary information, all four occupants of the car are in good health.

Motorcyclist died in hospital

Georgiou was critically injured in the collision and taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries despite doctors’ efforts to save him.

According to preliminary police investigations, the 30-year-old is believed not to have been wearing a protective helmet at the time of the crash.

Police are continuing their investigation to establish the exact circumstances and causes of the Kellia-Troulloi crash.

A post-mortem examination on Georgiou’s body is scheduled to take place at 10.30am on Tuesday.
