A fire broke out at around 3:40 a.m. in a bedroom of a two-storey house in Deryneia.
According to Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis, the fire started in a minor’s bedroom after the child had placed a mobile phone on the bed while it was charging.
The minor noticed the fire in time, left the room and alerted his parents. All members of the family safely evacuated the house and no one was injured or placed in danger.
The bedroom sustained extensive damage from the fire and heat, while the rest of the upper floor of the house was also affected.
Two staffed fire engines responded to the scene.
According to the Fire Service, the cause of the blaze was linked to the mobile phone and its charger.
