Deadly strikes in southern Lebanon
Airstrikes in Lebanon killed at least eight people on Tuesday, according to local authorities, as Israeli attacks intensified in the south of the country.
Among the victims were three rescuers who died while attempting to evacuate injured civilians from a bombed site.
Five people were killed in successive airstrikes on the town of Majdal Zoun. Lebanon’s Civil Defence reported that Israeli forces struck the area while rescue teams were searching for trapped individuals and assisting evacuations alongside the army.
Three rescuers were later found dead beneath the rubble of a collapsed building, while two Lebanese soldiers were injured during the operation.
President condemns violations
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the attacks, stating that Israel continues to violate international law and conventions protecting civilians.
He criticised the targeting of rescue teams operating in affected areas to assist the wounded.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health said one person was killed and 15 others injured, including five children, following a separate Israeli strike on the town of Zouaiya.
Further north, in Zibqin, two additional people were killed in another air raid, according to the same source.
Tunnels destroyed near border
In the Qantara area, the Israeli military reported locating and destroying tunnels belonging to Hezbollah.
The tunnels, measuring approximately 800 and 1,200 metres in length, were described as part of an underground military infrastructure allegedly funded by Iran for cross-border attacks. The Israeli army said it used more than 450 tonnes of explosives to demolish the structures.
The airstrikes in Lebanon come amid ongoing tensions in the region, with both sides accusing each other of violations despite a fragile ceasefire.
The situation remains volatile, raising renewed concerns over civilian casualties and regional stability.
