Larnaca: Gunfire in pursuit – man assaults officers before arrest

Date:

Drugs, ammunition seized in Dromolaxia

An arrest was made after a dramatic police chase in a rural area of Dromolaxia shortly after midnight.

Members of the Kiti Police Station, while on a motorised patrol, spotted a parked vehicle in an agricultural area that was deemed suspicious. As officers approached, the driver sped off in an attempt to evade inspection, colliding with a police vehicle.

Warning shots fired during pursuit

In an effort to stop the vehicle, police officers discharged warning shots. After the vehicle was brought to a halt, it was established that the driver was a 25-year-old resident of Larnaca.

During the incident, the suspect allegedly attacked police officers and was subsequently arrested for flagrant offences.

Drugs and weapons found in vehicle

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery and seizure of approximately 93 grammes of cannabis, a small quantity of cocaine, four live rounds of ammunition, and a knife.

Two police officers involved in the incident were taken to Larnaca General Hospital, where they received first aid treatment and were later discharged.

Court appearance expected

The 25-year-old is expected to be brought before the Larnaca District Court today for the issuance of a remand order.

The Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN), in cooperation with Kiti Police Station, continues investigations.
