Larnaca building inspections begin today (20 April)

Date:

Joint inspections by local authorities

Larnaca building inspections are being launched from Monday, April 20, with joint teams from the Larnaca District Self-Government Organisation and the Municipality of Larnaca carrying out on-site checks of potentially dangerous structures.

A six-member team, comprising officials from both bodies, will coordinate and implement the inspections as part of their respective responsibilities.

Focus on safety and quality of life

According to an official announcement, the initiative aims to strengthen public safety and improve the quality of life for residents.

The inspections will assess both already recorded and suspected dangerous buildings, with a view to re-evaluating their level of risk. Authorities will also identify and document additional structures that may pose hazards.

Immediate action on high-risk cases

Particular emphasis is being placed on urgent cases. Around 15 to 20 buildings in Larnaca have already been classified as high risk, and immediate on-site visual inspections have begun.

The goal is to take swift measures to eliminate or reduce the danger posed by these structures.

Broader effort to prevent hazards

The decision forms part of a coordinated effort to manage risks linked to dangerous buildings and prevent potential incidents.

Authorities will also examine cases of nuisance linked to such properties and take steps toward resolving them where possible.

The EOA Larnaca, in close cooperation with the municipality, stated it remains committed to addressing challenges that affect daily life, focusing on prevention, transparency and effective response measures.
