Date:

Five-year prison sentence imposed

A five-year prison sentence was handed to a 33-year-old man by the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca after he was found guilty in the Larnaca arson case involving a garage fire last July.

The case was investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Larnaca.

Fire set at garage next to house

According to evidence presented before the court, the arson was committed at around 6:45am on July 12, 2025.

The fire was maliciously set at a property belonging to a 58-year-old woman. The structure, which is attached to her home, was used as a garage.

The woman noticed the fire quickly and managed to extinguish it herself, preventing further damage. However, the blaze caused damage to the garage.

Suspect arrested days later

During the investigation, police gathered testimony linking the 33-year-old suspect to the crime and a court warrant for his arrest was issued.

He was located and arrested on July 14 by members of the Larnaca CID and the Crime Prevention Unit.

Suspect confessed to arson

While being questioned by police officers, the 33-year-old admitted to committing the arson.

Following the court proceedings, the Permanent Criminal Court imposed a five-year prison sentence for the offence.
