Kiti house fire sparked by candle leaves owner in hospital

Date:

A fire that broke out on Saturday morning in a two-storey house in Kiti, in the Larnaca district, caused extensive damage to the living room, while the owner suffered breathing difficulties after inhaling smoke.

According to the Fire Service, a call was received at 10:40am reporting a fire at the property.

The blaze initially broke out at a home shrine before spreading to the living room, causing extensive damage to equipment, furniture, electrical installations and a quantity of clothing.

The heat and smoke also affected the paintwork both inside and outside the house.

The fire was extinguished before the arrival of the Fire Service by the owner, assisted by neighbours who used a garden hose.

Firefighters carried out final extinguishing operations to ensure there were no remaining hotspots and ventilated the premises.

An ambulance was called to provide medical assistance to the homeowner, who experienced breathing difficulties due to smoke inhalation.
