Kalamaria: Victim stabbed in the heart, 23-year-old charged with homicide

A 23-year-old man has been criminally charged with intentional homicide, illegal possession and use of a weapon for the fatal stabbing of a 20-year-old in Kalamaria, in Thessaloniki.

The suspect was referred to an investigating judge to give testimony and requested additional time. His statement is now scheduled for Tuesday.

Earlier, shortly before noon, the 23-year-old was brought to the Thessaloniki Courthouse under heavy security measures, amid fears of potential incidents. Authorities were on alert as the suspect is reportedly an organised supporter of a rival football team to the one supported by the victim.

The suspect voluntarily appeared at the Thessaloniki Police Headquarters on Friday afternoon accompanied by his lawyer. A few hours later, he was arrested on charges of intentional homicide and illegal weapon possession and use, and was later brought before the prosecutor.

At the same time, the case file includes two additional individuals who were reportedly with the victim at the time of the incident and have not yet been located. Prosecutors have filed charges against them for joint aggravated dangerous bodily harm and possession of objects capable of causing bodily injury.

The charges were brought under the aggravating provisions related to sports violence.

What the forensic examination shows

According to information, the suspect has facial injuries, stitches on his head from lacerations, and multiple abrasions on his lower limbs and buttocks.

Regarding the victim, the same sources indicate that he lost more than two litres of blood.
The fatal blow was delivered to the chest in the precordial area, striking the heart.
