Israel suspends foreign news agencies over rocket reports

Date:

Israel suspends foreign news agencies following the broadcast of footage allegedly revealing sensitive military locations. The decision, announced by the police, comes amid rising concerns over unauthorised media content linked to the banned news network Al Jazeera.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the move was made “in accordance with the order of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and under the direction of Police Commissioner Danny Levy.” The suspension reportedly affects multiple international broadcasters.

According to The Times of Israel, the broadcasts included footage of missile launch sites, which the authorities claim showed “precise locations” that could compromise national security. The material was allegedly distributed through agencies used by Al Jazeera, which has been banned in Israel since last summer.

Police units were dispatched to enforce the order, targeting “news agencies used by Al Jazeera to transmit unauthorised and illegal content,” the spokesperson added.

This week’s enforcement action follows a police raid on the offices of foreign media crews who had aired footage of rockets hitting the Haifa region, where critical infrastructure had been targeted.

The move- in which Israel suspends foreign news agencies over their coverage- has drawn renewed scrutiny over press freedom in conflict zones.
