Iran: US signals possible lifting of naval blockade

Date:

Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has said that the United States has unofficially indicated it may soon lift its naval blockade, a key demand from Tehran for returning to negotiations in Islamabad.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Iravani described the US naval blockade as a violation of the ceasefire agreement and insisted that its removal is a precondition for renewed talks.

According to the Iranian diplomat, Washington has signalled readiness to lift the blockade, which Iran views as an essential step toward restarting diplomatic engagement.

He said that once the measure is lifted, a new round of negotiations could begin in Islamabad, though no formal timeline has been confirmed.

Iran’s position on escalation

Iravani emphasised that Iran did not initiate military action in the current escalation, arguing instead that Tehran had remained prepared for diplomatic engagement.

“If they want to sit at the table and find a political solution, they will find us ready again,” he said. “If they choose to continue the war, they will also find us ready.”

His remarks reflect Iran’s insistence that it remains open to negotiations despite rising regional tensions linked to the US naval blockade dispute.

There has been no official confirmation from the United States regarding the lifting of the blockade, and details of any potential agreement remain unclear.

The situation continues to evolve amid broader geopolitical tensions and fragile ceasefire conditions in the region.
