Iran issues threats against US naval forces in Strait of Hormuz

Date:

Tensions over the Strait of Hormuz escalated after a senior Iranian military adviser warned that Iranian forces would target US warships if they attempt to “police” the strategic waterway.

The comments were made by Mohsen Rezaee, adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, during an interview on Iranian state television.

Threat of attacks on US warships

Rezaee said Iranian forces would “sink” US vessels if they enter what Tehran considers sensitive maritime territory.

He questioned whether the United States has any authority to control the Strait of Hormuz, calling such actions unjustified and provocative.

He also warned that US military personnel could face direct attacks from Iranian missiles in the event of escalation.

Remarks on potential escalation

The Iranian official further claimed that a ground invasion of Iran would lead to the capture of thousands of US soldiers.

He added that Iran could demand large ransoms for prisoners of war in such a scenario.

Rezaee also said he did not support extending any ceasefire, although he described this as his personal position.

Background of senior Iranian figure

Mohsen Rezaee previously served as commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps from 1981 to 1997 and remains a prominent hardline figure within Iran’s military establishment.

The latest remarks add further strain to already heightened Strait of Hormuz tensions between Tehran and Washington.
