Optimism is growing within the United States government over the next stage of US-Iran talks, with officials indicating that a new face-to-face meeting between Washington and Tehran could take place soon.
According to remarks reported by ABC News, US officials familiar with the negotiations said momentum is building for the organisation of another in-person round, potentially before the end of the current ceasefire period next week.
Continuous communication between both sides
Two US officials said communication between negotiators from the Iran and the United States has continued at a steady pace following the first round of talks.
They noted that discussions are taking place through both indirect channels and limited direct contacts, as US-Iran talks move into a more structured phase.
Goal of a broader agreement
The US administration’s objective is to bring both sides close to a comprehensive agreement aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, which could then be finalised in a subsequent face-to-face meeting.
Officials acknowledged that technical negotiations on implementation details may require additional time, and could even necessitate an extension of the ceasefire. However, they stressed that extending the truce is not currently the top priority.
Key figures remain involved
US Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and adviser Jared Kushner are continuing to participate in the negotiations throughout the week.
However, officials said it remains unclear whether all three will represent the United States in the next round of US-Iran talks.
