A weather forecast suggests that despite the intense heatwave affecting much of Europe, Cyprus is expected to experience relatively mild and even slightly cooler conditions in the coming days.
Speaking on the programme Mesimeri kai Kati, spokesperson of the Meteorological Department Andreas Chrysanthou explained that high-pressure systems over Western Europe are contributing to lower-pressure conditions locally, resulting in no significant heatwave impact on the island.
Temperatures remain slightly above seasonal average
According to the weather forecast, temperatures will remain marginally higher than seasonal norms, by around 2 to 3 degrees.
In Nicosia, temperatures are expected to reach 37–38°C, while coastal areas such as Paphos will see around 30°C. Other coastal regions are expected to record 32–33°C, with mountainous areas around 26°C.
Localised showers in mountainous areas
Chrysanthou noted that some light rain is expected in mountainous regions on 22 and 23 June, while most areas will remain mostly clear with occasional cloud cover.
He added that no significant weather changes are expected through the weekend, although brief instability may continue to affect higher elevations.
Gradual warming expected later in June
The weather forecast indicates a potential rise in temperatures towards the end of the month and the beginning of July, as warmer air masses may affect the region.
However, meteorologists stress that July and August remain the hottest months in Cyprus, meaning further increases are typical for the season.
No major heatwave impact on Cyprus
Despite the broader European heatwave, Cyprus is not expected to face extreme conditions in the immediate term, with weather patterns currently remaining relatively stable and within normal summer variability.
