The Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow warning for extremely high temperatures, with the alert set to remain in force from 14:00 until 16:30 on Tuesday.
According to the warning, the heat warning has been issued as maximum temperatures in inland areas are expected to reach 40°C.
Hot and sunny conditions
Seasonal low pressure and a warm air mass continue to affect the region.
Tuesday will be mainly clear, with northwesterly to northeasterly winds, locally shifting to southeasterly or southwesterly, initially light at around 3 Beaufort. Later in the day, winds will become mainly southwesterly to northwesterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort, temporarily reaching 4 to 5 Beaufort in windward areas.
The sea will be slight.
Temperatures are expected to rise to around 40°C inland, 33°C along the west coast, 36°C on the remaining coastal areas, and 30°C in the higher mountains.
Warm night ahead
Tonight, the weather will remain mostly clear.
Winds will be southwesterly to northwesterly, locally northeasterly, generally light at around 3 Beaufort and occasionally moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will remain calm to slight.
Minimum temperatures will fall to around 27°C inland, 25°C on the coast, and 19°C in the higher mountains.
Outlook for the coming days
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are expected to remain mainly clear.
The heat warning comes as temperatures are forecast to stay at similar levels over the coming days, remaining slightly above the seasonal average.
