Government acts for Greek Cypriot detained in occupied areas

The government of Cyprus is taking measures to secure the release of a Greek Cypriot who is being held illegally in the occupied areas.

According to an official government source speaking to CNA, “actions are being carried out through UNFICYP and the relevant Technical Committee on Crime to achieve his release.”

Incident details

The Greek Cypriot was collecting greens near the buffer zone in the Gerolakkos area and has been detained since Tuesday. The government is actively working to ensure his swift release.

Diplomatic channels

Authorities are using UNFICYP mediation and the Technical Committee on Crime as channels to resolve the situation, highlighting the government’s commitment to protecting citizens in occupied areas.
