Gaza: Highest number of amputated children per capita globally

Date:

The Gaza Strip, where the war between Israel and Hamas has raged for over a year, now holds the grim distinction of having the highest number of amputated children per capita in the world, according to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

Speaking at a ministerial meeting in Cairo aimed at accelerating humanitarian aid to the Palestinian territory, Guterres highlighted the severe conditions faced by children in Gaza. He noted that many children were losing limbs and undergoing surgeries without anesthesia, describing the situation as potentially constituting some of the most serious international crimes.
