The Gaza Strip, where the war between Israel and Hamas has raged for over a year, now holds the grim distinction of having the highest number of amputated children per capita in the world, according to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

He noted that many children were losing limbs and undergoing surgeries without anesthesia, describing the situation as potentially constituting some of the most serious international crimes.
