The Carter family, originally from Accrington in the UK and now living permanently in Limassol, have become an unlikely but passionate part of Cyprus football culture.
Stephen, Janet and Jack Carter first attended an AEL match at Pafiako Stadium by chance. The atmosphere, passion in the stands and energy inside the stadium quickly won them over.
From a chance match to AEL devotion
What began as a casual visit developed into a strong attachment to AEL and the football community in Limassol.
Since that first match, the Carter family have regularly attended AEL games, sharing their passion with local supporters as well as British visitors living or holidaying in Cyprus.
Their enthusiasm has also extended beyond club football.
Supporting the Cyprus national team
As permanent residents of Limassol, the Carters also attend Cyprus national team matches, often wearing the team’s blue and white colours.
Their support for Cypriot football has attracted attention on social media, where they have frequently received messages of appreciation from local fans.
The family were also honoured by the Cyprus Football Association for their dedication and love for the game in Cyprus.
Celebrating Cyprus’ latest victory
The Carters were also part of the celebrations following the Cyprus national team’s recent major victory, joining supporters across the island in celebrating the result.
Their story has made them a distinctive example of foreign residents who have embraced Cyprus football and become passionate supporters of the national team.
