An incident is under investigation after a woman who is reportedly unwelcome in Israel boarded an Israel-bound flight from Larnaca airport on Monday evening.
Woman passed airport checks
According to police sources cited by the Cyprus News Agency, the woman, who is of Georgian origin, obtained a ticket for a flight to Israel on Monday, 5 October.
She completed the check-in process normally and then passed through the checks carried out by the Republic of Cyprus authorities.
There is reportedly no issue involving the woman in the Republic of Cyprus. However, she appears to be considered an unwelcome person in Israel.
Passenger discovered after boarding
During the final stage of the process, which is handled by airline staff, the woman allegedly deliberately bypassed the boarding check and entered the aircraft.
The extra passenger was discovered when the airline carried out a headcount inside the aircraft.
The woman was subsequently removed from the plane by the authorities.
Civil Aviation investigating
The incident is being investigated by the Civil Aviation Department.
The circumstances surrounding how the woman managed to board the flight despite the airline’s boarding checks remain under investigation.
