Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a phone call with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty on the same evening as the trilateral meeting between Greece, Egypt and Cyprus, according to an official Egyptian statement.
There was no corresponding announcement from the Turkish side regarding the call.
The Egyptian statement presented a different agenda for the conversation and did not link it to the contacts between Greece, Egypt and Cyprus.
According to the statement, Abdelatty and Fidan discussed developments in Libya and other regional issues.
Libya, Palestine and Iran discussed
The talks also covered “the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and Iran”, as well as ways to strengthen coordination and consultations between Cairo and Ankara on matters of mutual interest.
The announcement did not provide further details about the specific issues discussed.
Focus on regional coordination
The need for closer coordination between Egypt and Turkey in addressing regional crises was at the centre of the conversation, according to the statement.
The two ministers stressed “the importance of continued coordination and joint efforts to contain regional tensions and escalation, in the interest of security and stability”.
