Father left 11-year-old daughter alone to travel abroad for football match

Police are investigating a serious child neglect case after a father allegedly left his 11-year-old daughter alone in Cyprus and travelled to Albania to attend a football match involving Pafos.

According to Sigma correspondent Marios Ignatiou, police were alerted late on Thursday night after receiving information about the incident.

Officers immediately went to the home, where they found the 11-year-old girl alone.

Girl told police father was abroad

When officers asked the girl where her father was, she reportedly told them that he had travelled abroad to attend a football match.

The Social Welfare Services were immediately informed and took responsibility for the child’s protection and care.

Investigation into alleged child mistreatment

Police are now investigating the father in connection with an offence involving the mistreatment of a child.

Investigations into the case are continuing.
