Several areas across Cyprus were left without electricity shortly before 11 am on Friday, with problems reported in all six districts.
According to initial information from the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC), the outage was caused by a problem in the electricity generation system, which falls under the responsibility of the Cyprus Transmission System Operator.
The operator said a major loss of generation had occurred, affecting a significant number of consumers.
EAC crews are on standby, and efforts are under way to restore electricity supplies to the affected areas.
Further information is expected as investigations into the cause of the outage continue.
