A 37-year-old father has been arrested after his three-year-old son died on Sunday afternoon, after suffering a fall from a fourth-floor hotel window in Paphos.
The family, from Britain, had been on holiday in Cyprus.
Child fell from fourth-floor window
According to the information available so far, the child fell from the window of a room on the fourth floor of the hotel.
Initial reports suggested that the boy had fallen from a balcony. Authorities later clarified that he had fallen from a window.
The three-year-old was rushed to Paphos General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The couple’s second child, a young girl, was also in Cyprus with the family.
Father arrested as investigation continues
The 37-year-old father was arrested at around 10.15pm on Sunday and taken into custody.
He is being investigated in connection with offences relating to causing death through a reckless, careless, or dangerous act, failing to fulfil a duty as a person responsible for the child, and failing to provide the necessary care to a minor.
He is expected to appear before Paphos District Court today, where police will request a remand order to assist the investigation into the fatal hotel fall.
Post-mortem scheduled in Nicosia
A post-mortem examination on the child’s body is scheduled to take place at 12 noon today at the Nicosia mortuary.
The examination will be conducted by forensic pathologists Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou.
Police investigations remain ongoing.
Authorities have so far avoided releasing further details as they continue examining the precise circumstances surrounding the incident.
