Fatal Aglantzia crash still under investigation three months on

Date:

Police spokesperson Byron Byronos spoke on Protoselido about ongoing investigations currently being handled by the force.

Addressing the issue of public information, Byronos noted that “our communication is quite good, though it can always improve. We publish everything related to public safety, and if you look at our social media, all our actions are posted there.”

Asked about the fatal crash in Aglantzia involving 20-year-old Kyriakos Antoniou on 29 July, he said: “There are no new developments- it’s still under investigation. As soon as there’s something to announce, we’ll make it public.”

No update on case file sent to Legal Service

Investigations were reportedly completed in early October. According to police, the case file and witness material were to be sent to the Legal Service for instructions on whether the second person involved in the fatal collision would face prosecution.

However, no further announcement has been made regarding the case file or its progress.

It is recalled that the late Kyriakos was travelling along Larnakos Avenue from the University roundabout towards Nicosia when the fatal crash occurred as he attempted to turn right. The vehicle driven by a 24-year-old man had the right of way, but was allegedly travelling at excessive speed, which was one of the factors leading to the deadly collision.
