A family of five has been living in a one-bedroom home in Moutallos, Paphos, since 2018, as the family continues to wait for a larger Turkish Cypriot property to accommodate its needs.
Yiannis Ioannou, 34, lives in the property with his wife and their three children, aged 17, five and four. A recipient of the Guaranteed Minimum Income (EEE), he says he has been submitting applications for a larger Turkish Cypriot home for around eight years, but no permanent solution has been found.
Family still waiting for suitable accommodation
According to Ioannou, the family’s stay in the existing property was initially intended to be temporary. However, despite the passage of time and the family’s growing housing needs, their living arrangements have remained unchanged.
He said he had received assurances on several occasions that a larger home would be found for the family. In one instance, a property had reportedly been identified for allocation to them, but the process was never completed.
The family continues to live in a home with one bedroom and a small living room. Ioannou says the limited space makes everyday life difficult for the five family members.
Appeal to the authorities
Speaking to Sigma correspondent Marios Ignatiou, Ioannou described the family’s living conditions and appealed to the relevant authorities to help find suitable accommodation.
The family is still waiting for a solution after years of applications, with the need for a larger home remaining unresolved.
