Unstable conditions across the island
Cyprus Easter weather is set to be unsettled, as weak low pressure and an unstable air mass continue to affect the region, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Initially today, increased local cloud cover will be observed, while isolated showers or even a thunderstorm may occur along coastal areas.
Rain and storms developing inland
From midday onwards, developing clouds are expected to bring localised showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly over mountainous areas, the south, the east, and inland regions. Hail is also likely in thunderstorms.
Winds will blow mainly from the southwest to northwest, weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, strengthening along the coasts later in the day to 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be calm to slightly rough at first, becoming generally slightly rough by the afternoon.
Temperatures will rise to around 22°C inland, 21°C along the coasts, and 11°C in higher mountainous areas.
Clearer skies overnight
In the evening, conditions will become mostly clear, although increased cloud cover is expected in the west. Winds will remain southwest to northwest, generally weak at 3 Beaufort and locally moderate along the coasts.
The sea will remain calm to slightly rough in the east and slightly rough elsewhere. Overnight temperatures will drop to around 9°C inland, 13°C in western and northern coastal areas, 11°C in other coastal regions, and 4°C in higher mountains.
Holy Week outlook: unsettled pattern continues
On Holy Wednesday, conditions will start mostly clear with increased clouds in the west. By midday, isolated showers and possible thunderstorms are expected, mainly in the mountains and eastern areas, with further isolated rain overnight, especially in the west and north.
Holy Thursday (Maundy Thursday) will be partly cloudy at intervals, with isolated showers or thunderstorms in the morning, mainly along the coasts. Later in the day, localised rain and storms are expected across mountainous, southern, eastern, and inland areas, with further unsettled conditions overnight.
On Good Friday, the weather will remain partly cloudy, with isolated showers or thunderstorms expected first in the western half of the island and later elsewhere. Conditions will gradually improve from the afternoon, becoming mostly clear by evening with some local cloud along the coasts.
Temperatures will see a slight rise on Holy Wednesday, followed by a small drop through Good Friday, remaining close to seasonal averages.
