Dust concentrations high, authorities advise caution

Date:

Elevated levels recorded across Cyprus

High dust concentrations continue to be recorded across Cyprus on Wednesday, according to measurements from ground stations of the Air Quality Monitoring Network operated by the Department of Labour Inspection.

In an announcement, the Department warned that dust contains fine inhalable particles which may have a negative impact on human health.

Advice for the public and vulnerable groups

Members of the public, and particularly vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and people with existing health conditions, are advised to avoid outdoor activities until the phenomenon subsides.

Employers are also reminded that, under the provisions of the Safety and Health at Work Regulations of 2022, they must take appropriate organisational and/or technical measures after assessing the risks faced by employees working outdoors. Workers in open-air environments are advised to use suitable personal protective equipment.

  • Nicosia: 44.4 μg/m³
  • Limassol: 132.6 μg/m³
  • Larnaca: 79.3 μg/m³

  • Paphos: 180.2 μg/m³
  • Zygi: 126.3 μg/m³
